When our Roomba finally thew in the white flag after we brought home Shelby the shedding German Shepherd, we have been researching vacuums for months. We knew Dyson would likely be the only way to keep up with the hair but originally thought it was out of our price range. Until we found the remanufactured model! True to Amazon form it was delivered quickly in original manufacturer packaging and has been a Godsend ever since. We had forgotten what color our rugs were (blue! They are blue!) and thought our beige carpet had long ago turned gray. My husband and I now argue over who gets to vacuum because it is no longer a fight to get the floors clean. It even works well on our slate and hardwood. There are cheaper places to get the Remanufactured Dysons but Amazon works directly with the factory so you can’t go wrong. If there are any differences to the ‘new’ model you’d be hard pressed to find them. Definitely a life-saver for pet owners!

We purchased a refurbished Dyson Animal DC17 (no ball) about 4 months ago. It showed up looking brand new, had all of the manuals & came with the extra attachments because of the “animal” aspect of the machine. I additionally ordered another cleaning kit (Home Cleaning Kit) containing 3 more brushes, so I’m accessoried-out with Dyson attachments.
My pet-rich family is very happy with this vacuum cleaner. We previously used a Watermaid cannister vacuum that worked well, but was a pain to pull around. The Dyson proved itself on the first swipe – an amazing amount of pet hair went into the cannister. The Dyson is very easy to empty & my kids willingly do it now (complained when we used the Watermaid because of having to clean/shake out the filters).
The was a pricey purchase and it took me a long time to pull the trigger. I’m happy that I finally did it.

I’ve only had the Dyson DC17 a short time and used it twice. The suction is very good and the attachments work fine. The cord and wand are long enough. It would be perfect if it were a little lighter weight, but no regrets.
floor brush quit within minutes

I received my remanufactured unit promptly. I was amazed at the dust it was picking up but within minutes the floor brush quit working. I was sent to the nearest repair outlet (60 miles) They “unstuck” the reset button. It worked great for about 10 minutes but then the brush quit again. I’ve lost faith & I’m returning the vacuum.
Sucks, literally and metaphorically. It will destroy your carpet

We have a house that was built 5 years ago. The previous pigwoman didnt clean all too much. Needless to say the carpets needed cleaning.
We picked up the dyson after hearing in laws rave about it. Aft a cursory glance, I was impressed. It sucked up a lot of silt and sand that our previous $150 vac missed. Now the downside. Use 3, 4, 5, 6 = CARPET FIBERS.
We have every type of carpet imagineable in this house except for high pile plush/shag. It destroys all of them when the beater brush is on.
A simple solution of turning it off and using bare floors model may make sense. Afterall, it is supposed to have high suction. Unfortunately, this wont even pick up the small bits of lint from my baby’s toes that fall on his carpet. His white plush has little black dots of lint from his socks. If we turn on the beater brush to suck them up, it is then filled with carpet fiber.
I am extremely disappointed. I am positive a simple height adjustment would fix the destruction of carpet, but that is simply not the case. Each pass wears them thin, vaccuming without the brush on isnt as effective as lets say a professional canister vac.
Unfortunately, I do not have the solution for this problem. I wish I had recognized this problem sooner. Wife reported filth everywhere for longest time. Turns out it was carpet fiber. I have used up my vac budget for the rest of the decade, yet do not have a functioning vac
I did give this two stars simply because the attachment wand is awesome. However, I do not wish to clean entire house with it.
Now heres breakdown of things it didnt work on

1) Area rugs. Turned on brush because son had sand all over rug, it pulled 4 lines out of the rug creating a run (like pantyhose)
2) Freize carpeting with lower pile, it absolutely demolishes this type of carpet. Each pass removes carpet fibers causing considerable wear and tear. Carpet already feels like it could be replaced next year
3) Berber – rumors have it that manufacturers are recommending to not use dyson as it destroys their carpets. I have had 3 spots on my carpet pull up from this damn machine.
4) Closed loop – same as berber, utter no no
5) Plush (short pile 5cm or so) – this is my sons carpet. It is white, it is also what we lay him on to change, play, whatever. Needless to say its what needs to be the cleanest. His small room will almost fill a cansister full of carpet fiber with a 3 min vaccuming job, 2-3 passes over everything. No dirt, dust, or misc disbris. Just white coase nylon/wool looking carbet fiber.
But hey lets be fair, the hardwood option isnt bad. Just be warned the ON/OFF button sometimes catches the brush button. You will tear up some things if this accidentally comes on!

I bought the Referbished Dyson DC17 Animal a few weeks ago. You cant tell it was ever used. It works great. Our old one was on its last leg and I was amazed the amount of dirt the Dyson pulled out of the carpet even right after i used the old vacuum. I thought it was amazing so i took it to my parents house. They have a Eureka Boss. It didnt pick up anything after the Eureka did the floor. Guess the Eureka is pretty good too. Im still happy with the Dyson and the animal does a great job cleaning up after the dog. I would say if you want a basic good vacuum cheap, buy a Eureka Boss. If you want a vacuum with a few more options like a 16 ft hose, some good pet hair attachements, and easy empty dust cup get the Referbished Dyson Animal.
Dyson DC17 Review
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Based upon the great reviews of others, I purchased this vacuum cleaner to rid our house of dog hair and other dirt left in our carpets by our existing vacuum cleaner. It has not disappointed! From day one, it has sucked up all kinds of stuff and I feel that our house is cleaner and my sinus allergies are better. Since allergy tests found that I am allergic to dust mites, I purchased this unit in lieu of the series of shots recommended by the doctor. Even though the unit is remanufactured, it looks brand new. In time our family will learn how to use the extensive set of attachments that came with the unit. I am extremely pleased with the performance, durability, suction power, overall design, versatility and ease of use. I have recommended this unit to many friends who have pets.

Greatest Vacuum Ever

The Dyson is an amazing cleaning machine. I thought I was getting alot of dust, dirt and dog hair up with my old vacuum but after using the Dyson the first time I was surprised at how much was in the retainer tank!! I had to empty the holding tank TWICE. I never realized that my old vacuum was doing such a lousy job of cleaning!! I am thrilled with my new vacuum cleaner and the price was a real bargain to boot.
